Energy-saving EC fans

Nowadays, more and more attention is paid to protecting the natural environment and saving energy. Also, the HVAC industry is increasingly starting to use energy-saving solutions to reduce the negative impact on the natural environment and is looking for solutions to reduce electricity bills. Therefore, one of the more and more popular solutions are energy-saving EC (Electronically Commutated) fans.

What is an EC fan

The EC fan is a type of fan that uses an electronic commutation system to control the speed and direction of motor rotation. Instead of a traditional brush motor, the EC fan uses a brushless motor, which is more efficient and durable, and above all, energy-saving.

EC fan control

The EC fan motor can rotate at different speeds. This is useful in situations where we want to achieve a different value of temperature, pressure or air humidity, or to regulate the level of carbon dioxide.

For automatic control of the EC fan motor, we need an external analog relay (usually a 0-10 V relay is used) and a temperature, pressure or other parameter of interest. The relay is used to convert the analog signal supplied by the sensor into a signal that controls the output of the relay, i.e. directly the rotational speed. The aforementioned sensors send information to the relay about the value of e.g. air temperature in the place we are interested in, i.e. on the condenser. Depending on the parameters set by us, when they change, the engine speed will automatically change using the relay.

In addition, the energy-saving AS series fans from Weiguang, available in our offer, equipped with EC motors, have the ability to program the speed using a smartphone and NFC technology. Just download the app that supports fans, turn on the NFC function, put your phone to the fan and set the desired speed on the screen.

An alternative solution is to manually adjust the speed. Then, instead of a temperature sensor, a step control knob or potentiometer is used. The analog signal sent by the knob will be the same as the signal sent by the sensors. The further route of information transfer will remain the same.

Advantages of EC fans

The most appreciated feature of EC fans is their energy efficiency. However, this is only one of many advantages that can be attributed to this solution. There are many more arguments for using EC fans.

  • Low energy consumption - the energy efficiency of EC fans is much higher than that of AC fans; this saving can be up to 70%
  • Low noise level - EC fans generate a much lower noise level, which makes them more user-friendly and significantly improves the comfort of work in rooms
  • The possibility of rotation in two speeds - unlike traditional solutions, EC fans allow you to adjust its operation to specific needs
  • High efficiency and failure-free operation - among other things, thanks to the elimination of one of the more failure-prone elements, which are brushes in AC motors
  • Ability to adjust the speed - modern EC motors have a function that allows you to remotely adjust the speed according to your needs

All this makes EC fans an increasingly popular solution in ventilation and air conditioning systems.

EC fans for the HVAC industry

EC fans are energy-saving solutions used in the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) industry. Unlike traditional AC fans, EC fans operate on the principle of direct current and use electronic controls, which allows for precise adjustment of the rotational speed to the current ventilation needs. Thanks to this, EC fans allow you to reduce electricity consumption by up to 70%. EC fans are also quiet and do not emit noise, which improves the comfort of work in rooms, which, combined with their energy efficiency, makes EC fans more and more often used in the HVAC industry and are used in ventilation and air conditioning systems.
